Where: Harmony Dawn Retreat Centre, Rice Lake, ON. Harmony Dawn is an easy 90 minutes (without traffic) North-East of Toronto. It is nestled into the famous Northumberland Hills, minutes off scenic Rice Lake. Experience community living on a retreat property that is situated on historically sacred Native land and in an area noted for its unusually high oxygen levels. Harmony Dawn is committed to leaving a small footprint on our beautiful planet. They are completely off the grid, self-sufficient and regarded as one of the “greenest” buildings in Canada.

What you’re in for: 
A relaxing weekend of self care with daily yoga classes, workshops, hiking, meditation, plenty of free time and much more. (2 nights/3 days) 
-Delicious locally grown organic vegetarian meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner (the food is amazing!)
-Daily yoga classes led by Lindsay (4 classes over the weekend) 
-Hiking, guided meditations, fresh air, nature, evening campfires, mini workshops, deep conversations and more!

Sample day: 
Wake up to the beautiful sounds, smells and sights of fall. Enjoy a 90 minute yoga class in the sun-filled studio followed by a delicious and nutritious breakfast in the silent dining hall. Meet the group for a morning hike down to the lake, a guided meditation and then enjoy some free time before lunch. Go for a swim, connect with new friends, read a book, walk the labyrinth or take a restful nap in the sun room. An afternoon yoga class will be offered, outdoors if weather permits. After dinner, evening events like a yoga nidra meditation and campfire will be offered, creative workshops or enjoy a quiet night to yourself. A detailed schedule will be provided upon arrival.

Calling all nature lovers, culture vultures, beach goers, adventure enthusiasts, foodies and yogis! 
Here are the details of the next Costa Rica Yoga Retreat in beautiful Puerto Viejo. Join me for a week of yoga, relaxation and adventure in paradise this January! 

Accommodations

We'll be staying at Tierra de Suenos Wellness and Retreat Centre again because I absolutely love it there and know you will too! The centre is nestled in the jungle right next to some of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica. Owned by fellow Canadians, Jason and Callie Westlake, the rustic retreat property is located just outside the Caribbean resort town of Puerto Viejo in the beach community of Playa Chiquita.

When walking along the pebble paths upon your arrival, you will quickly note that a stay at Tierra de Sueños is an experience in nature. Submersed in the jungle and situated right across the street from the beach, you will find simplicity - clean air, healthy food, active life and easeful living. True PURA VIDA!

If eco-tourism, exotic plants and animals, friendly people, daily yoga classes, delicious food and unspoiled tropical beaches interest you, it really doesn’t get much better than this! 

Tierra de Suenos is an eco-lodge, not a 5 star resort-type vacation. You definitely won't be roughing it but if you are looking for a swimming pool, TV, air conditioning and posh facilities, this may not be the retreat for you. The bungalows are clean and comfortable with large overhead fans and have everything you'll need.
 
Although the centre is just minutes away from the beach, restaurants, shops and grocery stores, it is located in a thick jungle setting so we share the space with many creatures, including the adorable howler monkeys and resident sloth who like to join us for morning practice on the yoga deck!  

Each eco-tourist minded bungalow has a different theme expressed in the hand carved wood, tile mosaics, painted murals, and artistic details. The shared bungalows each have 2 beds and a bathroom. Enjoy hot showers and cool breezes from the overhead fans and large screened windows. One of the bungalows has 4 beds and a bathroom. 

Experience sleeping to the sounds of the jungle and relaxing in the hammock on your front porch while you observe toucans, sloths, humming birds, butterflies and much more right from your own private deck.

Yoga

Daily yoga classes, meditations and workshops will be offered by Lindsay throughout the week either on the sheltered yoga deck to the soundscape of the lush jungle, or on the beach as we watch the sunset. Classes will be a mindful mix of Kripalu yoga, Slow Flow, Therapeutic Hatha, Yoga Nidra and Vinyasa styles. All classes are suitable for all levels and no previous yoga experience is required. The yoga classes are all optional as well, so if you have a friend or spouse who's not into yoga and wants to join you, they can enjoy a cold one on the beach while we practice. ;) A flexible class schedule will be provided upon arrival. Yoga mats and all props are available for use so you don't have to lug your mat with you!

Optional Tours and Activities

Aside from the most beautiful beaches being just steps away, there are SO many things to do within walking or biking distance of the retreat centre. 

This is what I have planned for us: (all optional of course!)

  • Zip lining adventure in the jungle 

  • Guided tour of the animal rescue centre where you'll see sloths, toucans, monkeys and other wildlife up close

  • White water rafting adventure

  • Snorkeling boat trip and tour of Cahuita National Park

Flights and Transportation

Flights and transportation to and from the retreat are not included, however group shuttles from the San Jose airport are available and will be arranged for you before you arrive.

Flights from Toronto to San Jose in January are around $600

It is recommended that you arrive in San Jose on Friday January 3rd and stay at the Wyndham Herradura Hotel or another hotel close to the airport.

The group shuttle will leave the Wyndham Herradura Hotel at 10:00am on Saturday January 4th and will arrive at Tierra de Suenos around 2:00pm for check in.

If you choose to arrive on Saturday January 4th we can arrange a later shuttle to the centre for you. The shuttle cost is $55 USD.

Included in the cost of the White Water Rafting adventure is the shuttle back to San Jose on Saturday January 11th. If you do not wish to participate in the rafting, another shuttle can be arranged directly from the retreat centre.

We'll arrive back in San Jose around 7:00pm on Saturday January 11th. You can either try to get a late flight home that night or spend the night in San Jose and head home (or continue your travels) on Sunday January 12th.

Classes begin with a centering meditation and end with a restful savasana (relaxation). Students are encouraged to move at their own pace, flirt with their growing edge and let the voice of their bodies guide their practice.

Slow Flow- An engaging and mindful vinyasa practice where postures move seamlessly from one to the next. Guided by the breath and sprinkled with creative sequencing and adventurous transitions, this is a strong yet slow physical practice where you will have time in each pose to really explore micro-movements and settle into your own expression of the postures. Classes begin with a centering meditation and end with a restful savasana (relaxation). Students are encouraged to move at their own pace, flirt with their growing edge and let the voice of their bodies guide their practice.
